The Joys of Facebook – part 1

Posted on | July 28, 2010 | No Comments

Social networking is becoming more and more relevant in today’s internet climate, and Facebook is fast becoming the most important networking site of all. It is a great benefit to have a presence on Facebook for the following reasons:

  • Keep your customers up to date on the latest happenings in your company
  • Offer exclusive deals and content to drive more traffic to your website
  • Friends of your contacts will see you and visit your page
  • Google will see your Facebook page and links and increase relevance for your main website

However, it is not enough to just have a Facebook presence – your profile needs setting up correctly to make the most of it! Here are a few short tips and tricks:

  • Appoint a ‘Brand Ambassador’ – create an account specifically for your company rather than using a personal Facebook account (although it’s OK for your personal account to become a Friend)
  • Create a Facebook ‘Fan Page’ – this allows you to create an official Facebook page for your business and pick an appropriate category. Note that different categories will allow you to enter different information on the page, so be sure to pick the most suitable one for your business.
  • Enter Business Information – once your Page is set up, click on the Info tab and enter as much detailed information as you can. This helps people to find you and get in touch.
  • Write something interesting about your company – under your logo on the left is a space for information – use this to add relevant marketing text to entice customers.
  • Add a side banner – a large, graphical banner applied as your user image adds a great graphical impact to your page, and can be used to convey important information such as your web address or phone number. You should ensure to design this banner so a square area can be cropped out and used as the thumbnail for your profile (which will appear when you post on the Wall or on other people’s accounts).

We hope to add more articles like this over time – keep checking back for more Facebook tips and tricks!
