SEO Chat with a client

A client of mine has noticed another company come out of nowhere and start to rank higher, although he has yet to tell me who or for what the other company is ‘shooting up the ranks’ for…
…I too would be interested in the specifics of what he is doing. Do you have the name of the website etc. What phrases he is moving up the ranks on and anything else and I will analyse his site for you.
There is only so much ‘white hat’ SEO you can do on a site to optimise it for certain phrases, TAGS, TITLES, TEXT etc, thereafter it is literally about building your online brand and presence with Links back to your site.
Links come in different forms ie Outbound Links (from your site out), Directory Links (Yell, Thompsons), Reciprocal Links (Other similar industry sites) there are links from related Blogs and articles, but it is all down to time spent.
I would not be surprised if he ranks high or seems to move up for a couple of months but then drops back down again to his ‘natural’ setting.
As I say though I would need to know the specific keyphrases you think he is ranking better than you on.
I also looked at page titles last week and changed a few things on your site, what have you noticed?
I don’t consider myself the expert on any of this by any means, I am just really interested and have read a lot and seen results for clients and have the manpower to implement things. But I am always interested and willing to learn from anyone, including yourself if you have noticed something, as I have said you are closer to your site and industry than me.
